Preserving and Enhancing the Enjoyment of Wave Riding Ice-Nine's focus is on the tool and, better still, its core - the foam. To move it forward, we've looked hard over our shoulder. We've taken best of what our history has shown us - there is no ride like a polyurethane ride - and stoked it with a breath of fresh air to create CANE, ABLE and MOWSES.
Recent Quake Unearths Trove of Rare Plugs at Ice-Nine Rare Walker longboards laid bare as planet shatters; now available for customization on CADGET ORANGE, CA - Collapsed shelves at Ralph's may have rattled nerves in the latest So Cal seismo-wars, but the real news is the amazing appearance of four longboard molds from the historic and long-lost Walker collection. These molds, designed by the legendary Donald Takayama, now join Ice-Nine's line of innovative shapes, deepening the line and taking it - and riders - to new heights. The full catalog is now available for orders on http://www.ice-ninefoamworks.com. The Ice-Nine alliance with Walker started earlier this year, when the two forces joined up to make sure that Walker's signature foam - now weaponized with a few secret tweaks - would still be available. "We are fortunate to be able to offer Harold's most coveted molds," says Jon Stillman, president of Ice-Nine Foam Works, "and with these additions to our catalog, we hope to better serve his customers with the shapes that have served them so well." Visitors to the Ice-Nine website have long been able to select and customize a variety of blanks from eight different families through the company's pioneering CADget program - which makes it easy to modify standard rockers, and then save and order personal rocker designs. With the addition of Harold Walker's molds, CADget now boasts a total of twenty customizable shapes. A clean-up set is coming soon. "The rocker program is an important tool for getting a starting point that is consistent and dependable to begin a custom design," veteran CADget user Allen White of Rockledge, Florida. "The rocker profiler is easy to use and the most efficient way to store an endless variety of personal files." Another aspect of CADget is Ice-Nine's menu of polyurethane foam. Currently, the company is pouring two. CANE is the more environmentally-minded of the pair, made from an MDI-based technology along with a sugar-based polyether. It's recognized for its flexural properties and remarkable dent resistance. MOWSES is the TDI foam that was created while collaborating with Harold Walker. Mowses is not only ultralight and white but is also extremely easy to plane and sand. Its tight/closed cells translate to greater liveliness and a longer life in the water than other TDI foams. For high-volume shops, Mowses is robust and production-friendly.
The Shape of Shaping to Come We want to make sure that the craft of custom shaping gets passed to the next generation of design innovators. Problem is that shapers and their understudies were usually discouraged about having to pay full price for as practice board. To encourage our master shapers to give their time and expertise in the shaping bay to aspiring young artisans, we've eliminated this barrier with the ICE-NINE APPRENTICE PROGRAM. Ice-Nine donates rejected and experimental blanks to registered master-apprentice teams. More details about Ice-Nine Apprentice Partnership Program are available here.
